What is the NDIS?

The National Insurance Disability Scheme (NDIS) is a way of providing disability support to those that need it. A long-term, lifetime focussed approach is needed to ensure that people with disability get the required support and help needed to build skills and capability so they can continue to participate in community and gain fulfilling employment.

It is important to understand how the NDIS works and your eligibility to participate. The video below will demonstrate whether you’re eligible for NDIS and what to expect at each stage.

Am I Eligible to participate in the NDIS?

The NDIS is available to people living with a permanent or significant disability impacting on their day-to-day life. Disabilities that may receive support include intellectual, physical, sensory, cognitive, and psychosocial disabilities. To be eligible to access the NDIS, participants must be:

  • Under 65 years of age when they first access the NDIS,

  • An Australian citizen, or

  • Hold a permanent resident, or

  • Hold a Protected Special Category Visa

How does the NDIS help me?

Plans funded by the NDIS complement the support that people may be eligible to, or are receiving from other government services such as the Disability Support Pension, Carers Allowance or Health Care Card.

NDIS plans aim to provide supportive access to, and connect you with services which can help you in achieving your goals and having better outcomes.

Watch this video to learn more about how the NDIS can benefit you.
